In the summer of 1954, James Avery started his jewelry business in a two-car garage with about $250 in capital. He built a small workbench, and then bought a few hand tools and scraps of silver and copper. It was his desire to create jewelry that had meaning for him and his customers as well as having lasting value.
Today we, as a company, offer fine jewelry designs in sterling silver, 14K and 18K yellow and white gold, and gemstones for ladies and men, and maintain some 1100 designs and 14,000 separate jewelry items in the active product line. In order to maintain the quality and responsiveness essential to a successful business, we are vertically-integrated, meaning we design, manufacture, market and sell our own product line. We even maintain in-house graphics and photography as well as internal architecture and furniture-making capabilities to keep the customer’s experience a special one. The strategic goals of the company include a three-prong effort of reaching and satisfying our customers through retail stores, mail order and on the internet.

In 1937 John J. Segner opened the doors of his jewelry store as John J. Segner Jewelers in Fredericksburg. After John completed his apprenticeship, he quickly started to build his business through hard work and earned the trust and respect of the community. While he became known as "the man who could fix anything," Vernell, John's wife, quickly took the responsibility of customer service, sales and accounting. She also brought restringing to the business, and still takes part in it today. He remained in the business until he was 80 years of age. He left behind his strong values of customer service. In 2002 he highlighted his career with the "Man of the Year" award given by the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce. In 1973, his son Sammy joined the business after attending watchmakers and jewelry repair school. Sammy quickly found a passion for watch repair as it was turned over to him. In 1980 the business was incorporated and the name was changed to Segner's Jewelers Inc., expansion and remodeling took place. In 1988 Sammy proceeded with his goal of a second location. Segner's Jewelers was opened in Austin, Texas located in Oak Hill and operated by John's son-in-law Bruce Pokorny and Bruce's sister, Susan. A 3rd generation of jewelers started in 1997, when granddaughter Jennifer J. Spies joined the business. Jennifer attended Texas Institute of Jewelry and Technology and received the "Swest Top Jeweler" award. Now the business is operated by Sammy and Jennifer who are continuing the same reputation of honesty, integrity and hard work that were instilled in them from their father-grandfather. Segner's Jewelers is a member of the Independent Jeweler Organization. This is the largest jewelry buying group in the world. This allows us the opportunity to make extraordinary diamond and jewelry purchases. Segner's Jewelers offers a wide range of services, a modern collection of fine diamond jewelry, and an endless assortment of gifts for all occasions. A special thank you to the customers of Segner's Jewelers Inc. for their business and loyalty throughout the years. Segner's Jewelers looks forward to assisting their customers in the years to come.
